Did any of you have that one car in the neighborhood that was the coolest thing you’d ever seen, looked the part, but you grew up never seeing the car move so much as an inch? The tires would go low, and every once in a great while you might get lucky and get to hear the car fire up and run for a bit, but that was just about it? I had one of those, a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 that a neighbor owned. Ran twice ever, never moved. I left before that car made any kind of headway. Well, here’s your chance to save a car from it’s spot in someone’s driveway for low money. This 1966 Mercury Comet is a clean little thing and we’re digging the GT wheels on it. If you can work on a classic Mustang, you can work on this Comet. And it can be just as fun to rip around in.
The 289-powered machine is all there. It just needs a water pump and some air conditioning work, according to the seller, but it starts and runs just fine. He has admitted that the car was last registered twenty or so years ago, so looking over everything would be a good idea, given that the car has been in Las Vegas. Rubber hoses, tires, and the like should be checked out, but a little attention up-front will pay dividends in the long run. She’s a project, but for $4,900 it’s a solid start for a classic Mercury that isn’t seen much of anywhere anymore. Our dream combination would consist of hopping up the 289, putting a GearVendors on the automatic, and while I’m not a fan of them, I don’t think any other wheel than a Torq-Thrust would do here, on fat Goodyear Eagle Blue Streaks. What can we say, vintage road racer suits this car nicely. Interested?
