Shelby vs. Z/28: Motor Trend Pits The Two Prize Fighters Together In A Celebration Of Horsepower

Every magazine wants a “Mustang vs. Camaro” story whenever Ford and General Motors change up something on their pony cars, and that is perfectly fine by us: competition breeds evolution as each side fights to one-up the other. We are all for that. But sometimes, things…well, they just don’t make sense. Case in point is this head to head comparison between the new Ford Mustang GT350R and the last-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. We’ve sung the praises of both cars…they are brutal track weapons, and are nowhere near our budgets. But the Camaro is based on the eight-year-old Zeta platform car, whereas the GT350R is brand new onto the scene. It doesn’t seem fair to pair these two off, especially when there is a new Camaro out and a new Z/28 on the way, but for now, look at it like this: the new boss is meeting the old boss. Is the Shelby a worthy successor, or is the Z/28 really worth it’s $70,000 plus price tag?

Gotta agree with Chris. This new guy is such a terrible host. Pity that Carlos Lago left Motor Trend, as he was the best reviewer.
