It’s December, which means that winter is just about to set upon us in earnest. That isn’t something we look forward to…the cold weather does not help our aching bones, the sun setting at four in the afternoon just pisses us off, and then there is the issue of the fluffy white stuff falling from the sky. Snow was a big feature from last year’s winter, especially in the Northeast, where they had a mountain of snow and ice piled up in a parking lot that lasted until June. Of course, the biggest problem with a heavy snow is digging yourself out and clearing a path. Do you wait for the city or county to take care of your streets? Sometimes they do, sometimes they only work the major artery roads and don’t get to the neighborhoods until much later. Forget that…you could take care of the problem yourself (and possibly earn a few extra dollars in the process!) with this 1977 Ford LTD II snowplow we found sitting on eBay with an hour left in the auction and a $3,000 opening price.
As much of a tank that the LTD II was in factory form, they weren’t that fantastic in the snow. That has been cured with a hand-fabricated X-style frame with all of the running gear raided from a Ford F-250 pickup truck. Dana 60 axles front and back are driven through a twin-stick transfer case from the 351/automatic combination, and the point of function is the Fisher plow up front. Painted a shade of orange that could be seen from the International Space Station and rigged up to fit within New Hampshire’s maximum bumper height laws, we are actually intrigued. What little we can see of a frame from the pictures looks stout, and so long as the heater works and the floor isn’t see-through, we would have a riot with this thing. Paint the “01” on the door and the flag on the roof and advertise yourself as The Dukes Of Plowing, and have fun with it all!
As much as I’d like to post this in The Brougham Society, I wont. But I like it. Its definitely different. I wonder if this was a survivor car… lol
