Steve McQueen was not only one of the most famous actors of his time, but also an avid car guy. He had a lot of cool cars, and his passion for them was well documented. One of his most famous passions was off-road racing, both on two wheels and four, so it will come as no surprise to anyone that he owned a Meyers Manx, one of the coolest off-road machines ever. If you aren’t familiar with a Meyers Manx, you must live under a rock, but it is the car the invented the term dune buggy. They were based on a VW Beetle “chassis” and they have been a fun and popular car for decades.
A Meyers Manx has been available complete and as a DIY kit over the years, and when Steve McQueen ordered his he customized it to his liking. So how did he spec his personal Meyers Manx? Watch the video below to check out his Meyers Manx and all its features. We dig it.
Video Description:
There are dune buggies and there are dune buggies. This is the latter. When Steve McQueen specs his own dune buggy, you know it’s going to be special. For the classic film ‘The Thomas Crown Affair,’ McQueen and Bruce Meyers designed this Con-ferr Meyers Manx Dune Buggy that featured in an epic seven minutes of the film as McQueen drove his co-star, Faye Dunaway, rather enthusiastically on the beach.
As part of our 60th anniversary celebration of the Meyers Manx brand, we had this very special machine take part in the magnificent buggy parade.
