Ah, hello, old friend. This 1988 Chrysler Conquest has had me both mesmerized and confused from the word “go”. I’ve called it a Mitsubishi Starion (not the worst mistake I could’ve made, admittedly). I’ve played up this car’s LS swap to the anger of Mopar faithful and the anti-LS establishment. I’ve noted this car’s license plate more times that I’m willing to go back and check on (seriously, how the hell did that one make it past the Michigan DMV?!) and I’ve spent plenty of time just staring at this thing in Las Vegas. There’s something about this car that just catches me right. Part of it is that body shape…say what you will, but the StarQuest twins knocked it out of the park for a sporty coupe. Part of it is what this car can do to pretty much any course you have. And part of it boils down to the owner, John Lazorack, who is a pleasant, almost soft-spoken individual who comes across as a genuinely nice guy who is just here (wherever “here” is at the moment) to enjoy his time and play nicely.
Hit play on the video below and hear the quiet guy’s bright red monster come to life after the Hoonigan team finish staring at every square inch of this thing. It’s wicked.
I like. Much.
Mucho awesome-s
Very fancy, but I thought we might see it in action on the track other than burn outs. Lots of money spent for just a burn out.
I met John at COTA – he camped next to us. Can confirm: Super awesome guy. You can tell he actually built the car, and walked us through the build. Left a great impression. I still remember coming back to the camper and seeing this monster parked there.
