Money No Object: 1963 Dodge 330 Two-Door Clone

There are two points about this car that need to be mentioned. One, this is a Chrysler B-body. Same as a Road Runner, same as a Charger, same as a Cordoba. Yeah, the styling couldn’t be any more different, yes, there are wheelbase differences between the models that spread two inches (116-118 inches), but the truth be told, it’s miniscule. This thing is just an early take on a Super Bee. Try not to choke on your laughter on that one, but it’s the truth…mechanically, they’re the same. Same suspensions, same ability to choke down a B-series big block. The other is that when this car left the factory, it was a four-door Dodge 330 with a Slant Six, painted light blue. Sometime between then and now, a whole lot of work took place.

Why someone went to the trouble to convert this 330 into a two-door is beyond us. But the execution, we can appreciate. A 413 sits underhood, linked up to a 727 running on pushbuttons and an 8.75 axle. The outside is finished in white, the interior is that blazing shade of red that Chrysler did best, and the whole presentation is…well, stark. Look inside of this car and think to every Charger or GTX you’ve seen. By comparison, the 330’s interior is taxicab spec in a stunning shade of Whorehouse Red! To the layman, it doesn’t come off as a musclecar. But those in the know understand why this car was built the way it was. The Little Old Lady from Pasadena knew. Santa apparently drove one. The Super Stock Dodge was something to fear, a monster of a machine. To this day Mopars of this era are known to be beasts.

So it was a four-door six cylinder car. Were you weeping because it’s been converted? We doubt it. It’s time to let those dual quads gulp as much air as they can.
