Money No Object: “Whiskey Bent”, The Dodge Pickup Of Your Roadtrip Dreams

Money No Object: “Whiskey Bent”, The Dodge Pickup Of Your Roadtrip Dreams

I’ve known about this truck for a few years. It is a perfect example of finding a vehicle you hate and seeing it built into something that you can only love. I’m no fan of the first or second generation Dodge D-series, but how in the hell can you not like a vehicle that is crafted so thoughtfully, so well, that every fiber in your being wants to have a go behind the wheel? From it’s coppery brown paint to the interior that will offer up the aroma of leather for decades to come, the Dodge truck known as “Whiskey Bent” is that vehicle. Flip a coin and see if you can make a call between a 1962 and 1969 pickup…I don’t care either way, and it has been called both in previous sales and auctions. So long as the title matches the VIN number, I wouldn’t be bothered about it.

What I want out of this truck is a roadtrip that never ends. Bright sunny days in Spring, hot nights in Summer, leaf-lined backroads in Fall, and in Winter, it can sit in the garage undergoing extensive detailing for the next year’s adventure. There isn’t anything real exotic about the powertrain…a 1979 360 and 727 automatic move the truck along with enough grunt…but look at this rig. The draw has nothing to do with grunt. Yes, the gorgeous paint and low stance are neat, but look at that interior for a second. Weber’s Custom Interiors turned Dodge Intrepid bucket seats into works of art. Plant your hide in that hide and roll in pure comfort.

Talk about a polished turd! Yes it’s done to perfection but still a turd. What’s the deal with the AMX in the background?

Normally, trucks like this do nothing for me. It’s a truck that can no longer be used as a truck. When I saw this truck in person three years ago, I really became a fan of it except for one thing. That 360 engine. Who spends multiple six figures on a build only to go cheap on the engine? It was like they just got lazy or cheap. They could have easily gone to a 408 stroker from many sources. But I was really looking for something like a big block or even a Gen III Hemi.

Well, I’m a FORD guy, but when I fist spotted that truck online several years back, I thought it was pretty cool…….but the “Buy it Now” @ $139,800 seems a bit much.
    I think they’re fishing??
But hey, more power to them if they can get it………

I have the same truck ,stock. The truck you are looking at is a 62 ,63,or 64 .They changed the grill and tail lights for 65 .And 61 was a different grill. We love our 4dr D-200. We tow a 68 Avion camper (looks just like an Airstream ) . Had it with the camper at the Bowlingreen HRR a couple years ago. Anyway .The truck is a Dodge . Its not a Chevy. He will have that truck a long time asking that kind of money. And as I see it he has been trying to sell it for a couple years now. Takes a special kind of DNA for you to like those Swept line Dodges . Not a real pretty truck .Just a damn good old truck .And my DNA really likes em!!!

Wow, there’s absolutely nothing done properly there.

Lovely craftsmanship, but very much a polished turd.
