Rough Start: This Clean 1968 Imperial Barely Breaks The Bank, But It’s A Lot Of Car For The Money

The dream for any car hunter is to find a vehicle from yesteryear that offers a lot of bang for the bucks that are spent. It doesn’t matter if it’s the fastest, or the prettiest, or the most luxurious…as long as you’re getting a lot of car for your hard-earned dollar, you’re winning. Things like rarity, style, power and the like are simply icing on the cake, and when it comes to this silver 1968 Imperial sedan, you’re certainly getting your money’s worth. This is the car someone’s grandfather had…it was big, luxurious and had a rather eye-opening amount of power for such a big sled.

That power is courtesy of Mopar’s 440ci big-block, funneled through the nearly unkillable 727 automatic. The paisley bench interior is pleasant without being overly garish, and the paint and brightwork look to be somewhere between a nice driver and a decent show car…someone has taken good care of this tank during its 72,000 miles. If there is anything to pick apart, it’s the under hood, which could stand a good detailing and clean-up…a minor cost considering how much you don’t need to do to the rest of the car. And at $5500, even though it blows through the Rough Start budget by $500, we’d still say go for it, if for the style points alone. It’s a big cruiser that looks at home rolling down the boulevard, and you can’t say that about a lot of cars that are still around.

Oh man, it’s right down the road from me. What a beauty, and in my eyes a great deal. Those Imperials are sweet like bear meat. I’d cruise it as is with a big ol’ smile on my face.

If it has no rust or major mechanical issues the price is reasonable. A pretty car that should be left as it is.

not a demolition derby car. Everybody knows they were outlawed from derby’s a long time ago because they were indestructable

don, you are thinking of the full frame imperials that ended in ’66. And yes, there are still events that allow them but the supply chain is thinning every year.

Feed that 440 EFI and beef up the Torqueflight a little bit and I would be a happy guy. I would leave the rest of it alone.
