Shine Runner Special: This 1967 Plymouth Fury Is A Big-Block, Four-Speed, Four Door Surprise

Shine Runner Special: This 1967 Plymouth Fury Is A Big-Block, Four-Speed, Four Door Surprise

A four-door big block sedan from 1967 is cool. It’s not completely noteworthy and you can keep your dreams of collector car auction gold mining to yourself, but any big-block sedan is worth looking at from a gearhead standpoint. Case in point: the 1967 Chevrolet Impala from the television show “Supernatural”, which as far as I can tell, has a bigger following than the show itself. What makes a big-block crew cab more appealing, though, is three pedals and a gear-stirrer on the floor as it should be. My proof for that? Gator. You all know the big brown Ford that howls with Burt Reynolds revving the holy hell out of it. It’s the ultimate family car. It’s a moonshine runner in training. It’s awesome.

Now, here’s a well-weathered 1967 Plymouth Fury III. It’s not picture perfect, it’s not even a polished old car. It’s a garden-variety, well-worn but not trashed example of what would normally be taxicab fodder or a cop car back when. But a 383 and a four-speed, from the factory, meant that instead of being the usual sled of a big Mopar, that the brick-colored Plymouth was going to be interesting to drive. We have to wonder about the original owner a bit…big block, four-speed, no power steering, 3.23 gears out back, and the heavy-duty suspension package. If this car was from the South, you’d say “shine runner” and move on. But this car was ordered in Washington State. Hmm…

Wow – the perfect tv stand to match my ’66 Hemi, 3 speed column shift, 4 door Coronet coffee table with the magnesium, rat roaster intake, centerpiece and my aluminum case A-833 4 speed door stop – the ‘man cave’ is coming together!!!

Funny first thing that came to mind Bryan was “White Lightning” when I saw the car. Only thing to add is A/C cause I’m older now and want to be comfortable!

    I love it!

Guaranteed you’ll be the only one on your block to have one, and you’ll likely never see another :^). I knew that 4-speeds were available in ‘C’ body MoPars, I think thru 1969 (not certain on that one), but I’ve never seen one in the flesh, so to speak. Normally, if you were going to see such a thing, you’d expect it to be in a Sport Fury, not a Fury III.

I have friends who’ve had 4-speed Pontiac full size cars, which while rare, are more numerous than C-body MoPars by far.

    Kinda cool IMHO

Something stinks big about this car. Seller says he doesn’t have the build sheet, and it’s been modified in more than one way. I will bet a dollar to a donut the trans is not original. C body OEM 4-speed parts are made of unobtainium. By the way, this car could also be ordered with a slant 6 and 3 on the tree.

Also very rare and out of place is the round tube dual snorkel air cleaner (on a single exhaust car?)

Or maybe the original owner was a hotrodder that had to give up cars for a while when the kids was small. But he still needed a little hotrod in the family hauling container. So he put in some fun go fast stuff in the family truckster to at least not Forget his past. We see it now a days to when dad lowers his station wagon and has a open aircleaner and 20 inch rims on it just because he needs to feel a little cool. Maybe this guy felt the same? Or it was a special order for one of the government organisations, that needed something that would blend in but still be fast. Undercover copcar? I like it and Think its cool as hell.

I have a Tri-Power intake and carbs that came off of a Cop car from back in \’66. It was a Full-size Pontiac 4dr 421 Tri-Power 4-speed car. Back in the \’70\’s I got pulled over for squeeling my tires (I lit them up in 2nd gear because my shifter linkage was messed up and finally got it in 2nd) Well just so happened a local cop was behind me. He pulled me over and was checking out my \’64 GTO with Velocity stacks sticking thru the hood and said: You\’ve got Tri-Power on here I see. It had came off of HIS COP CAR back in the day. I just said Yea.
