It isn’t everyday that you find a Funny Car just sitting on Craigslist, waiting to be sold. It’s also not everyday that you find a 1980s Dodge Daytona listed, either. Most of Chrysler’s sporty G-body coupes have disappeared into scrapyards and finding a funny car for sale usually requires that you know a guy that knows a guy. But if you have the luck to find one that’s useable and have the money to burn in getting it put together, there is no racing in the world quite like nostalgia drags. With the Good Vibrations March Meet looming ahead of us within the next few days, you can’t blame us for looking at this roadside find and seeing one of the later Chi-Town Hustler cars or Mike Dunn’s Hawaiian Punch funny car, can you? Sure, the hard part is going to be bringing the car up to certification and building a worthy bullet for the machine, but audiences don’t lie: they love the older funny cars. As it sits, you get a rolling chassis, a Dana rear axle, motor plates, the rear wing, a fuel tank and Wilwood brakes. The rest is up to you to make appear.
Honey………..we need a new car…….
The body is too new. The cutoff year is 1979
