In order to properly sell the “sleeper” vibe, the vehicle has to be able to fly far under the radar of anyone looking. There can’t be any giveaway to what’s going on with the running gear, the outside needs to be stock, and everything should hide the sucker-punch under the hood so well that once you do learn what’s going on, the only thing you can do is just laugh at the joke that is being pulled.
From the outside, this 1986 S-10 is doing a great job. The updated nose is the only real deviation from stock, and the work rack in the bed of the truck gives off a contractor/plumber vibe. In fact, the only real curiosity looking at it are the wheels…they don’t look like a stock size for an S-10. Maybe stock for a Monte Carlo, but considering how many of these trucks I’ve seen with these wheels, it’s not worth the second look.
Under the hood is where things go from hum-drum to hilarious. Here’s the build list the owner put up:
Engine:
4.8L (1xx, xxx miles)
Cam (I’ll have to look up the specs)

60 lb injectors
Walbro 255 in tank pump

Stock wheels with brand new tires (245s)
The seller is throwing in everything needed to get the heater and A/C working, and will sell everything with the S-10. This little thing rules, and the only way to make this better is to take it onto Drag Week dressed up like a famous plumber all week, pipes on the rack and everything.
Talk about a sleeper! Too bad they have poor legroom for my 6′ frame.
blah, I’m 6’1″ and have no problem with my S10.
Damn, this thing has to be a real rocket ship. Looks like pretty good workmanship too.
it sucks to be in California where this would never be legel
This truck was in hot rod magazine and ran the power tour with two other guys with ls swapped s-10s
If it has the factory cats on it it should be legal. The engine came out of a truck at least 15 years newer that the s10
Holy crap, only $8000?
That little beast has a stock S-10 rear end in it and it hasn’t been chunked out the back like a frisbee? Wow.
You can’t launch the parts if you can’t hook up.
Good point.
They usually had the 8.5 rear in them which is pretty stout when built right.
The 8.5’s weren’t available until the second gens came out. My daily driver S10 with a 6.0 and T56 still has the 7-5/8″ holding fine. Like mentioned, you can’t frag it if it never hooks!
Where’s it located and price on it call me with more information please 5092180616
Click on the link above the last picture, I think it’s in Illinois.
It’s in Illinois. You’ll have to join LS1tech to message the owner since he didn’t post any contact info.
Yep its near Moline Illinois. I’ve seen this truck many times at local cruise-ins. It does get driven and used. Its well thought out too.
