In the interest of full disclosure, I wrote the rant about 1980s cars and attitudes while I was seeing red mist. It isn’t the first time I’ve lost my temper over other people’s opinions and it won’t be the last. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, just as I’m entitled to mine. But when the link to that story wound up on Facebook, the response was pretty eye-opening. I was surprised to see a lot of positive response (no, seriously, I was) and a lot of cool rides were shared that show creativity knows no bounds. We got projects, drivers, and one seriously nasty Fox Mustang. We love it!
11. James Harrington’s Mercury Monterey might not be from the 1980s, but just like the others, a little work and a lot of attitude create an awesome ride.
10. Ryan Mallek’s 1989 Chevrolet Caprice is right up Lohnes’ alley: a clean looking sedan that is ready to put in some serious work.
9. John Schaber’s 1983 Dodge Mirada project. Yes, it hits home for me. Careful with those rear fender caps!
8. Darren Roar’s Caprice coupe…makes me miss my old ’79 Caprice coupe! Love the “N90” wheels!
7. Ronald Howard Covert sent us this Mustang Pace Car. All that engine…
6. Alex RSB’s 1987 Mercedes-Benz S-class. If you haven’t heard one of these late-1980s Benzes with a healthy set of pipes, you should…evil. They sound evil.
5. Kevin Burnett’s Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. Even a dead-stock 305 makes these interesting…and we doubt that whatever is under hood is dead-stock.
4. John Thilliander sent us this 1984 Oldsmobile 98. Imagine what the seats feel like after six hours on the road…
3. John Philips’ 1981 Monte Carlo Landau…it’s in there somewhere, we promise.
2. Ryan Mallek’s 1989 Ford Crown Victoria with a 5.3 GM LS swap. I love this one mainly because I’ve wanted to build a similar vintage Grand Marquis in about the same fashion: grandparents clean, powerful motor, and all of the major mods out of sight.
1. Chris Horcasitas’s 1978 Ford Fairmont. This black beauty packed a 460 and a C6…brutal!
That Mustang pace car!
But the Fairmont is crying out for wheels that don’t look lost in the fenderwells!
Still – First On Race Day…..
It’s not about what you start with, it’s what you do with it that matters. These are some pretty sweet rides and I’m with you 100% on your rant.
The Pace car is clearly the winner.
