eBay Find: This 1971 Toyota Crown MS75 Coupe Is Super Rare And Looks Killer As A Drag Car!

A 1971 Toyota Crown coupe. No, I haven’t lost my freaking marbles, thank you very much. A 1971 Toyota anything that isn’t a Celica or truck normally doesn’t warrant any attention from us…usually, they’ve either succumbed to the tin worm or are still in Japan. But the entire reason I know anything at all about this particular car was because of the website you are reading right here. Surprised?

crown coupeThis beauty right here made our site last May, and not in a good way. This nasty little beast was running a wicked turbocharged 2JZ swap and was good for 5.1 in the eighth-mile, but on a warmup pass the car got loose, drilled the wall head-first and went onto it’s lid. We put out a request for finding a replacement body for the guy, and I don’t know if we ever heard anything again about this particular car. The problem stems from the Crown coupe’s rarity: figures tend to fluctuate, but generally, about two to three hundred Crown coupes landed in North America, period, and worldwide they didn’t sell too well.

To be absolutely fair to our Internet find, it’s rarity is moot. The car is at the right stage where the only positive thing to do would be to build it up to be as wicked as possible, and I always envision the car above. Does it have to remain Toyota? I’m not a purist, but it would be cool to see how far a Toyota 5.7 out of a Tundra could go with some boost and some spray. Most of what makes the Crown coupe stand out is the shape of it’s body, so clean it, fix it, and paint it so that the chrome stands out from a mile away. Interior…that’s your call, but it would be cool to see it still in place.

All it takes is a vision. One guy followed it, and the result was one of the most stunning Toyotas we’ve ever seen, and we aren’t ashamed to say that. Anybody else feeling brave?

  1. Chevy Hatin\' Mad Geordie

Some clown will put an LS into it – but your idea of the Tundra V8 (whatever one of those is) swap is bang on especially with twin turbos. I think that this would be a better street car though especially as its so rare.

Any time I see a vintage Toyota, especially something uncommon, I like it with a Lexus or Toyota V8. Done right, they never fail to please
