I’m not 100% whether or not this 1970 Challenger does or doesn’t qualify as an honest “Street Freak”…I always thought that was a cross between a muscle car and a traditional gasser…but the late-1970s custom look, with the wide wheels and tires, subtle flares and trick paint is a weakness, and seeing this root-beer brown Dodge, with everything laid out just perfectly, is pretty much pornographic. The Challenger is owned by Sho Kogawa, a resident of Ibaraki, Japan and is named “Magic Powder”. Originally white and gold, the Dodge recently got a re-do and it’s perfect. Raked out, sitting on slotted mags with Pro-Tracs out back, side pipes and KC driving lights, just about every detail you could conjure up that is period-correct is present and accounted for, and it comes off as honest instead of cornball. It’s beautifully done and while not every detail is desirable, the overall look has me drooling and looking at the Imperial in a new light. Leave it to the Japanese. Not only does their car culture have it’s own unique style, but they have proven themselves adept at master other styles. The sheer variety of car styles over there is mind-boggling.
Having been to Japan many times during my navy career, I can say first hand that the Japanese truly appreciate American iron.
it’s not just Japanese who appreciate American cars…
where ever you go in Europe, you will find exactly similar American car culture.
even if you come to Finland you will see old American, stock / built in every possible style. 🙂
I lived through/survived that era. Terrible! I don’t miss it. Thankfully it’s over; hopefully it doesn’t come back.
everything about this car is awesome… love the 70’s paint graphics, done perfectly on it… and that disco ball is hilarious
It needs a playboy bunny air freshner or garter belt instead of disco ball! I really like it. Its cars like this that got me into muscle cars/hot rods.
