This isn’t the 1970s, folks. The days of looking at a full-size van and going, “Hmm…you know what…that would make a bitchin’ hot rod” are long, long gone. Right? Didn’t that die off with shag carpeting, side pipes and dragon-lady murals? If it did, the folks at AMS Performance never gave it a second thought as they were busy working over this 2004 Chevrolet Express. This 12-passenger 5.3L all-wheel-drive van was meant to simply shuttle bodies and have enough guts to pull a small to medium trailer without much of a problem. That was fresh off of the lot…after a major build, this is a 12-second brick on wheels. That might not seem too impressive, but when you factor in that the curb weight on an Express is somewhere around 6,000 pounds and that nothing inside was sacrificed for the speed, then it starts to make sense. This is literally a sleeper disguised as a church bus, and there is something warped yet awesome about that.
