I’ve been semi-joking around about a BangShift Command Vehicle, the kind of ride that we could take from race to race in comfort, that could operate all of our systems in place and still be something worth being seen in. We’ve tossed around all sorts of ideas…converted busses, unique RVs, and the like, but this time I think I’ve found the perfect shot. It’s big enough to handle whatever task we would need it for, it’s small enough that we don’t need a CDL to drive it, and it’s capable enough that we could even take it off-road if we want. And it’s plush enough inside that you might think that we swapped out pictures of the interior for that of a mobile bordello.

We don’t even know who would order up a 1997 Ford E-series van as a PowerStroke-equipped dually. In fact, outside of commercial accounts, we didn’t know you could even get the van as a dually. But there it is, looking like it did the day it left Quigley. Wait, Quigley? Yes sir…in addition to every possible option thrown at an already hard-to-find van, this E-series is a four-wheel drive unit. All we would need is a small trailer to drag the computers and scaffolding with, and we’d be set!

Many moons ago the British Police were rumoured to have 4×4 dually Ford Transits powered by 3 litre V6s. But they were nowhere near as good as this baby – although I’d lose the hideous mud flap and tailpipe that ruin the rear view…

No rumor that one, they did use 4×4 dually Transits, as did the Royal Mail and power companies. Although not with the V6 engine.
Quigley still do 4×4 and dually, and both at the same time, conversions on Ford and GM vans. They also used to do RHD conversons on late GM vans primarily for postal delivery use, I actually was looking into importing Quigley RHD GM vans into Australia but it was cost prohibitive.

You guys just missed a much lower cost mobile command vehicle – one of my co workers just sold an E450 based city bus that he had been using as a tow vehicle before downsizing to an Excursion. The interior wasn’t nearly as nice, though.

I hate Ford trucks, I will start with that. This van however is perfect for dragging the drag car around. Room for the kids to not be talking in my ear the whole trip, almost enough power with the only decent diesel ford put in their light duty rigs, and it can be driven in the snow without much fear of imminent death! But for the price I would rather have a truck.

Loosing the mud flaps would make it undrivable on any roads in most places. The link does not send you to the van but a six door top kick.
