This Is What Every Fuel Car Team Needs For Pomona. The Ultimate Race Support Wagon.

Back in the day my dad and his buddies pulled their dragsters with wagons. Everyone did. And they were awesome. In fact, one story that is permanently burned into my brain is of their friend Don sitting in the dragster, on the trailer, going down the highway in Pomona, drunk. They stuffed his drunk as in there to keep him safe and all piled in the wagon to head back to the motel. He’s yammering on about who knows what and one of them starts laughing and realizes he’s giving a play by play of a run. It’s at that moment that they ALL realize he is about to cross the finish line in his delusion and they all look at each other as if to say “He wouldn’t! Would he?” It was then that he pulled the chute. I can only imagine that this was one of the funniest things ever at that moment. This 1962 Pontiac Catalina wagon could be your fun race hauler! Or it could be the ultimate surf wagon. Either way, it is for sale here in Sunny So Cal and if you are here for the drags in Pomona you should just get it.

Here is all the info from the seller:

Almost all original Pontiac wagon. Original paint, original interior, numbers matching engine and upgraded transmission. Drives perfect. No rust anywhere. Only surface patina. This car sat in a barn for 20+ years by the original owner. The grandson inherited it, took it to a shop to have it fixed up and then couldn’t pay for the work. The shop took over ownership, then sold it to me.

Drivetrain – Rebuilt 389 (about 3000 miles ago) with a Comp cam and Edelbrock 4 bbl. The wagon now has a rebuilt TH400 trans (shifts perfect) replacing the original and less reliable Hydramatic. It was installed at the same time of the engine rebuild. The wagon has power steering and power brakes. All new fuel lines and brake lines. Fuel tank is fresh. New radiator. New rear diff seals. New exhaust with Flowmasters (with the cam and exhaust combo; the car sounds great). Optima battery. A/C car with everything (including compressor) but not all hooked up. I would do a Vintage Air kit if I was keeping it. It has plenty of power.

Suspension – I have lowered the wagon with new coil springs (3″ drop) and Ridetech shocks. The car rides so nice with this setup. It has a better stance and doesn’t scrape or drag on anything. New alignment. It has 18″ Coy style wheels and 215/55 tires with about 70% tread left. Front tires rub slightly on the inside during tight u-turns.

Interior – All of the glass is original and in great shape. The windows roll up and down beautifully (even the wind wings) and don’t rattle. Rear electric window works great. All of the door handles and latches work perfect. I have the original key and it works for the doors, rear electric window and the ignition. I also have a spare key that works better than the original, and I have aged it to match the original. All the electrical works – dash lights, original AM radio (works perfect), horn and even the turn signal cancelers. Currently the wipers just stopped working, so I am looking into that this week. The interior is beautiful and almost perfect. Has the rare 3rd row seat. The 2nd and 3rd rows fold down to make one giant cargo area. The headliner is in good shape but has one small hole on the clothes hanger hook. The carpet is good except for one worn spot on the passenger side sill. It even has the original rubber mats throughout.

Exterior – The body has a fantastic patina, and with all of the original body panels you can be assured of no Bondo. There is only surface rust on the underside of the wagon. Not even paint bubbles anywhere. There are some small dings, dents and scratches for its age. The roof has some larger patina spots. The chrome is all original with normal pitting. Bumpers are original with slight rust spots. The worst part of the chrome is the top piece on the rear tailgate that has flaked off.

I have lowered the price by $1000 because of a small vacuum leak. I also had the rear end checked out by my mechanic (a rear end specialty shop) that said the gears are starting to make noise but will be fine for another 30,000 miles. It is $1000 to replace the rear end gears. I don’t think it’s necessary but I don’t want to force my confidence onto the buyer.

The registration is paid until June 2018.

    That is a nice wagon, but for 16K I want it fully detailed. Polish the chrome and other shiny bits, remove all of the surface rust underneath and on the chassis, paint/coat underneath and chassis, and wax the paint.
    This barn find trend is getting as annoying as rat rods. Clean up the car before selling it, and patina is stupid.

      I agree with F.R.O.!! All of the above and delivered to North Dakota! Barn finds is another fad that only magnifies prices with out some type of quality involved.

    I rode middle seat shot gun with my dad and our \”race team\” every weekend for years in Pontiac wagons pulling his 29 bantam roadster he always seemed to find pea green wagons but i had some of my favorite memories rolling to the race tracks but 16,000 is a little steep way steep the term barn find and barrett jackson have killed peoples perspectives on pricing in my opinion.
