Rough Start: Mining For Gold In Nevada, And Struck This Big-Block C20

Whenever I look for a Rough Start car in the American Southwest, it’s basically a cop-out. I know I’ll find good stuff there, it’s just a matter of whether I find what I’m looking for or something that I wasn’t expecting. In this case, it’s the Elko, Nevada Craigslist, which is BangShifter TheSilverBuick’s backyard…kinda. It’s the high, dry, and sparsely populated Great Basin area of northern Nevada, a stark but beautiful landscape.

And for the torment of the truck-lovers of BangShift, I present to you this 1983 Chevrolet C20 Crew Cab. Yes, there’s a 454 big block under the hood that has 30,000mi on the last overhaul, backed with a TH400. The body is in very decent condition, and the only needs, besides a cleanup, are two tires, an alignment, and a windshield.

Seeing how the truck is only selling for $1100, none of the above should stop you from getting the truck in running and driving shape. Figuring an additional $1000 on top of purchase to make the C20 streetworthy, that would leave $2900 to do whatever with. I’d simply start ordering stuff from LMC until I ran out of cash, starting with carpets, dash cap and door panels.

You can see the Chevy’s Craigslist ad here  while it lasts.

Desert cars, gotta love them. Where to next?
