If there is a good side to what you are looking at, it’s the price. Only $900 of your hard-earned dollars from your rainy-day fun need to be sacrificed in the name of picking up a square-body GM truck of your own…in this case, a 1982 GMC C-30 with a 350 and four-speed, neither of which were installed from the factory. Originally a diesel/automatic dually, what’s left is a useable cab and…well, not much else. So why would you look at a truck this torn down? Square-bodies have value, sure, but surely the $5,000 Rough Start fund could go to …oh, I don’t know…something more complete?

Well, maybe. But where some see an incomplete truck, I see a blank canvas. And I see some good things that can come from that. It might be a bit embarrassing to admit, but as soon as I saw this listing I thought of the 1989 Chevy R-3500 double-axle flatbed from Fast and Furious. Movie magic pushed aside, there really was one built with all four rears driving. But I’m not thinking a tag axle…instead, I’m looking at the idea of just a wicked 1980s GMC flatbed truck. The open canvas is there for a bed, which could be ordered from a manufacturer like CM Truck Beds or Bedrock Truck Beds. Even if that isn’t the route you want to take, finding a useable dually bed shouldn’t be that difficult. Note, I said “useable”, not “perfect”. Some paint, some clean-up work, and you’d have a good work rig that would be a great starting point for a built or restoration. And surely you can get this thing up and going without breaking the bank!

This thing actually looks pretty solid! And a wooden shorty stake-bed could be constructed for a couple hundred, just like Dad did to his ’65 Ford when the original bed FELL OFF! Good times!
Fast & Furious look-a-like?? More like a finnegan wanna-be special – c’mon McT, quit reading bottom feeder sale ads!!
Why would that need to be towed? Missing brake lights? Either not needed or take set and wire them up.
