After page after page of some of the worst $2500 and under offerings I’ve seen yet in my Rough Start viewings, I almost gave up on the Jersey Shore Craigslist. Conversion vans, the same ’97 Lumina nobody wants, and a ’59 El Camino frame for $2600. It was pretty sad. Then I get this G-body Cutlass and right off the bat I’m liking it. It’s got the all-black murdered look on it, which I’m not a fan of normally but hey, at least it has paint. The 17″ Cragar Soft 8’s imply someone has been paying some attention to performance.
Underhood there’s more clues. The engine, which I’m betting is an Olds 307, looks to have gotten an intake and carb upgrade and I’m pretty sure that distributor is an MSD piece.
Out back, it appears that the owner was trying to mock up a ducktail spoiler for the car. Was this destined to be a NASCAR tribute? I don’t know, but for $2500, the car is at least worth an investigation. After a thorough checking of frame rails and the body for rust, this thing would be cleaned up and turned into a cloned 442 with a violent little small block. Oh, wait…the budget thing. Right.

Looks like the factory 307 4v intake with and adapter plate with Holley 2bbl bolted up…
Northeast G bodies = rust buckets
Agree!
Those Soft 8 rims weigh a ton! Had 17X8’s on my Caprice and they almost gave me a hernia installing them! Needless to say they didn’t stay on the car long since the car is a tank already.
Let’s see the interior. Externally, it looks like it “might” be worth the $2500. A 307, even with a bigger carb and a red distributor cap, is a complete wheezer.
455 swap and a decent interior, and you are in the game!
