In the 1970s the Big Three made design changes to their family sedan lineups that put the BIG in big cars. These cars were available with both big and small American V8s and became the cruisers of lore that ate up miles of Interstate back and forth across this great nation. This 1971 Chrysler Newport, that our friend Rocco told us about, is one such beast and this one looks ready to eat up miles on a summer road trip. With 383 cubic inches and a 727 I’m pretty sure this thing has a rearend gear that will cruise at 80 mph all day long. And with bench seats both front and rear, 6 adults can actually fit in this thing better than most suvs on the market.
One of my favorite things on these big Chryslers is the grille, which is surrounded by a giant chrome bumper that looks ready to eat anything in its path. Plus these cars are so long that they look low and cool even at stock height but with a little altitude adjustment I’m sure this sucker would look even meaner.

My daughter is going away to college and we don’t need this car anymore. We had all the belts, hoses, new carb, spark plugs, wires, and shocks replaced. Has a 383 motor, the odometer shows around 55k
I was in my front yard years ago & heard a lot of noise on the main road. When I went over it was one of these cars that veered off the road and drove the entire front end into a brick house on the corner. I watched the rescue team get the woman out of the car and the two people on the other side of the front door of the house thru the window. Then a fireman got in the car, started it & drove it back out of the house. I had to check how much damage was done to the car & it still had air in all tires & didn’t even break a headlight! WOW!
That was one lucky teenage girl that got to pilot this land barge around. Throw some seat covers on it, wax it up and your good to go. That’s a lot of car for little cash.
Looks like something Uncle Tony’s Father would have drove.
No matter the make or model . Any of this type of car from that time. Are great drivers. They ride great. Have room for 40 people. A huge trunk. What a great vehicle to take to the beach or what ever you want with your intire class on board . Not a high dollar vehicle ,just cool as all hell. And who would have know we would think that . When I was 10 years old in 1970 riding in the back seat of 1969 Newport. And now days all wagons are kick ass. That’s why I have a 63 Rambler wagon. Ya baby!!!
