Now this…this is just depressing. As the final days of a warm autumn slip away, the idea of hitting some country roads in a red Mustang droptop sound absolutely heavenly right now. You can even hear it…the small-block burbling away through the duals, the cool air mixing in with the heated air from the vents, the sounds of leaves rustling as you cruise on down the road. One last perfect day before it’s time to put this scarlet beauty up for the season, to slumber until the trees begin to leaf out, the flowers start to bloom and the temperature is at that pleasant point once more.
Unfortunately, we’re at Copart, and while we do have a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible painted bright red and looking like it was just recently restored…it’s Copart, which means that between the day the restoration was finished and now, something pretty bad happened to the pony. What, exactly, is difficult to determine. The nose took one hell of a hit on the passenger side and the driver’s front has been shoved in and upwards. The whole body shell looks buckled behind the passenger door, and even the rear quarter and tail light area wasn’t able to escape impact injuries. At least the interior is still more-or-less intact and whole.
This is a heartbreaker. Someone spent time and money making this car gorgeous. You can get a glimpse of what this car was like moments before fate stepped in…polished pretty, shiny new chrome wheels on fresh rubber. It makes you sick to see the outcome like this, but unfortunately, sometimes that’s the luck of the draw. From what we can see, this Mustang is toast, but hopefully someone in the process of rebuilding their own can see the value in the good parts left on the car before the shell goes in for the big squeeze.
Can’t believe this was taken to a Copart! So many good components on this, it should be easy to part it out to appreciative Mustang types. It is a damned shame. We saw a guy several years ago taking a ’69 Mustang fastback, minus engine and trans, into a metal recycler in Tulsa, the kind that doesn’t sell parts, and simply crushes. The body was straight and virtually rust-free. We asked him why he was taking it to the crusher, and he said, “I lost the title”. Another head scratcher. What the hell was he thinking? Hell, I’ve gotten titles for stuff I bought that didn’t even have titles with them when I bought them, it’s not that hard! Anyway, shame about this Mustang; I hope the crowd survived…
Sad end. lt don’t even look like it had time to get dusty after the resto before the wreck…..
Depending on the combo (engine/trans… auto), somebody might step up if the floorpan isn’t too eff’d up. Ya never know!
By the way, they got another ’67 that’s flood damaged in Beaumont, Tx, current bid $2700, and it looks SWEET! I wonder…
Curious as what the engine is to whether it is really a GT. I’m guessing no, but the VIN would help.
