We all know that in the early 1970s that two of, if not the baddest cop cars ever, the 440 Dodge Polara and Plymouth Fury were nothing to screw with at all. Acceleration that didn’t get beat until the LT-1 powered Caprice, handling that held up well, brakes that could haul that barge down repeatedly, a body structure so stout that it could pretty much crash through anything. But one thing the big Mopars didn’t have was agility. In 1971 and 1972, Alabama became the first state to press a pony car into service, going with AMC Javelins after testing a 401-powered example from a local dealership. Used for high-speed pursuit and fast-response situations, the Javelins remained in service until 1979.
This 1972 Javelin 401 is not an actual State Trooper car, but is a faithful replica. The only giveaways are the bumper guards and the passenger door mirror, neither of which came on the actual vehicles. The 401ci V8 is present and accounted for, the air conditioning works, and the police equipment and markings are removable. This car has 94,000 miles on the odometer, low mileage for any 1972 car, let alone a 401 Javelin. Included with the sale are items from American Motors, the Alabama State Troopers, display items, and even an original plate for the car!
