Kit Car Veyron? It Could Be Yours…If You’ve Got The $125K

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the car pictured in Webster’s Dictionary under “hypercar”, and for damn good reason. In it’s most conservative trim, the car is a 1,000hp W16-powered AWD rolling hyperbole, capable of well over 250mph. It’s $1,000,000 price tag is justifiable due not only to the engineering and exclusivity, but the outlandish nature of the car. This car is the Lamborghini Countach of the 2000’s.

The latest Pontiac GTO was a captive import from GM’s Australian arm, Holden. A big two door coupe with a V8 and a manual trans available, it was supposed to recapture the true spirit of the Musclecar Era. And while it’s horsepower numbers are credited with the start of the Second Supercar Era, the car itself was a sales flop due to American’s discerning tastes when it comes to muscle cars and what they should look like, and was discontinued.

So you want a Veyron, and have some dough, but not enough to afford one…what do you do? You can either plunk down $125K and pick up a nice Lambo Gallardo or Ferrari 599, but why would you do that when every over-priviledged rich twit in Southern California has one? Instead, you can compromise and get this kit Veyron! Created by a company called Santana Innovative Design, this kit started life as a 2004 GTO with an automatic. A little work with a Sawzall made room for the Veyron body panels, which appear to be made from a composite material. The car as a whole is unfinished, but for the price, Santana Innovative Design will finish it to your specifications.

From where we are sitting, the body looks very close…it’s not as bad as a Fiero-Ferrari from the 1980’s. You get the looks of the Veyron with the durability and cheap parts the GTO powertrain offers. You’ll be fast, but not Bugatti fast. You might want to tint the windows, though, because once someone sees the GTO dash, the charade is all over.

aw hell NO…that looks puke. I try and be accepting of things that are different but yuk. OK, whats the one questionable thing about a Veyron? its looks… sooo, what do you get here? Its looks and nothing else…so, whats it powered by? that paragon of `dare to be different ‘, the LS….yeh, great…honestly, you’d really struggle to find people that wouldn’t laugh their tits off at you. And, wait, for HOW MUCH???? 125 k??? so, you’re sure theres nothing else in the automotive world that you’d rather spend 125 k on? Like, for example, 90 % of all the hot rods, customs, muscle cars, etc out there? you’d rather spend your dollars on this? best of luck….

“And while it’s horsepower numbers are credited with the start of the Second Supercar Era . . . .”

    Really? Holden VZ Monaro-based GTO . . . 2004 350 h.p. 5.7L LS1
    Mustang SVT Cobra . . . 2003 390 h.p. “Terminator” 4.6.

Only a myopic GM fanboy would “credit” Lutz’s imported “Goat” with kickstarting the Second Supercar Era.

“Myopic G.M. fanboy”…yeah, that’s cute. Just because I overlooked a Terminator Cobra? I’ll credit that you’re right with the horsepower numbers, but that’s all the due I’ll give you.

While I don’t agree with the wording, You’re right. Modular Ford’s get NO love from this website at all. Accufab is doing some kick ass work with one, last I saw they were running like a 6.05 quarter mile with a stock block and worked over stock cylinder heads. On the other hand, if someone comes out with a new polished intake tube for a LeSs motor, it gets coverage for weeks. I understand everyone has a preference, and I do enjoy the website, but damn, show some love every once in a while!

…and, a hard left turn, into the wall!

OK, back to the subject at hand…

” and though some of its metal structure was cut off, metal tubing was used to reinforce the fiberglass body to the frame/chassis of the GTO. It is very safe to drive, and will not present any problems in drivability.”

Boy, that’s a promise you can probably not take to the bank. Looks like the builder just ran out of steam and money and needs an “investor” now. Turns out there is a lot more to a car than just that outer body you see first. That said, I’d love to have a look at it just for fun and the outer shell looks like a decent mold.

I’d rather have my nuts stapled to my forehead and be forced to listen to Joan Baez for a month than be seen near that thing. I finally agree with that Mopar guy on something – “kill it before it breeds.”
