Be Ready For Anything With This 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air Trar – Just Fix The Brakes First!

Trars…we are fascinated by them here. Some versions more than others, admittedly, but on the grand scheme of things, we tend to appreciate a car that has been repurposed into a four-wheel-drive vehicle via the work of the owner. It takes something special to look at a car, look at a truck, and decide that you can’t just live without turning two into one. We’ve seen some good versions over the years, and we’ve seen some very, very questionable ones too. Where does this 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air trar fall in that range?

Well, you’ll have to get the information from the seller to be sure of the story, but we’d like to think that this was a case of a good truck with a rusty body and a useable Bel Air body that had been sitting around for years finally coming together. The frame is a 3/4 ton GM truck chassis and you get a 350 that’s had some basic work done, a four-speed, and…well, you get a project to complete. You’ll need to get the brakes working, you’ll need to mount the seats, and you’ll need to mount the fuel cell. It’s a project, but it’s a runner and it will yard-drive as-is. Tidy a few things up and make it safe, and you can go roaming the trails with the style and comfort of an early 1960s Chevy.

Or, you will just amass angry letters from your local HOA. Whatever works.

My thoughts exactly. You could find a 61-64 Impala 4 door for cheap, slide the frame out from under that and free this patina car from its sad fate.

I don’t know why, but I really like it. Price isn’t too bad either. I almost want to see it with an old Detroit under that long hood.
