(Photos: Larry Chen via Speedhunters) When people look back on what 2017 should be known for, only one word really needs to be said: “hurricane”. The 2017 season repeatedly took and hit each and every time, it seemed. The Caribbean Islands, Gulf states and Texas took the brunt of this year’s season, and it’s not over yet…the season doesn’t officially end until November 30th, and there’s still active storms being tracked that could potentially turn into something between the western African coast and here.
How much did the hurricanes demolish? When the National Weather Service tweeted out: “This event is unprecedented & all impacts are unknown & beyond anything experienced. Follow orders from officials to ensure safety,” that’s a clue. Hurricane Harvey set a record for most rainfall in a tropical cyclone. Hurricane Irma effectively razed islands with 185 MPH winds, and Hurricane Jose followed a similar path shortly after, and Hurricane Maria took out Puerto Rico’s grid. Damages are in the hundreds of billions of dollars, and there are not only entire communities, but entire islands that will require years of recovery and help.
Enter Larry Chen. You guys have seen his work. We’ve seen him work. Put a camera in the guy’s hand and cut him loose, and he’ll bring back gold. Well, he’s offering up some things to help with hurricane relief. From the man himself, via his Facebook post:
“Honestly, I am as tired of the “Thoughts and Prayers” thing as much as you guys are. I’m auctioning off a photo shoot with 100% of the proceeds going to hurricane victims. Please help me share this. Also, if you go to the other items I am auctioning off ten prints signed by drivers. Thanks to Michelle Forsberg and Formula Drift for setting all of this up #FormulaDrift”
So, let’s recap: if you want to help Formula Drift with a good cause and can appreciate good photography (or have an interest in Formula Drift schwag) you can dig through their eBay site, but let’s talk about the photo shoot that he is offering up. What’s the deal? Well, if you win the the auction, you will be contacted to set up a photo shoot sometime in the month of December in the Los Angeles Area. For an hour, Chen is all yours and will do a killer job of shooting one car of your choice, with the photographs yours to keep (not sell or use for any commercial reasons…just for you to have). So, if you’ve always wanted to have some professional-grade photos of your ride, here’s your shot!
Er – “Your Junk Can Be Pro-shot” could be somewhat misinterpreted. I would have said “Get Your Car Photographed” instead. My thoughts are for the families who suffered loss or were injured and Donald Trump has apparently forgotten that Puerto Rico is a US State,,,,,
