This week’s eBay pick features a helping of self sorrow. See, one of the cars we had to unload in the exodus from our former shop space was a ’59 Buick station wagon that we loved more than the air we breathe. We had big plans to load the body onto a ’94 9C1 Caprice chassis, stuff our spare 455 Olds into it, and cruise until the wheels fell off. The reality turned into flipping it for a several-hundred-dollar loss just so we didn’t have to pay to store it.
And now there’s this car on eBay, a different and perhaps cooler ’59 Buwag in red with a red gut (ours was black with a blue interior). We won’t be able to afford to bid on it, but perhaps one of you will. Act quickly, since the auction ends pretty soon. This car has been up for sale before and hasn’t sold yet, so we’ll be curious to see if it goes this time.
When we were selling our version we had an amazing 70-something people watching the auction. As it turns out, there’s a kinky fan base just for ’59 Buicks. (See the club forums here.) The wagons tend to be extra popular becuase few were made. As we learned, the wagons were factory customs–they started life as four-doors and were converted to long-roofs off-site.
