Today’s coverage of the SCTA’s 2010 Bonneville Speedweek started out with our own gallery along with coverage from our presenting sponsor Spectre Performance, but we promised you even more. Well here we are to deliver. We’ve got 85 more pictures of wreckage, racing, and impound where Speed Demon, the Coehn brothers, Hondata, and Mike Cook’s Thunder Racing are all waiting for tomorrow morning’s shot at glory.
The Poteet and Main Speed Demon is sitting in impound after running 405 mph while running their little 300 inch Duttweiler Hell Fire V8, and feel that a fresh morning course could be what they need to really put down a number. If they set the record tomorrow, it is likely that they will be swapping engines for more cubes and more power and hitting some fuel records on pure alcohol. Regardless, they are the current leader in the hunt for the famed Hot Rod Magazine Trophy which is awarded to the car that runs the overall fastest exit speed of the meet.
Running close enough to taste it, the Spectre Performance streamliner has got its new 528 cubic inch, twin turbocharged, Caddy installed and ready to run for tomorrow morning. This could turn into a big boy battle between the top dog and the underdog, and both teams are here to play.
Mike Cook’s Jesel Mopar powered Alfa Romeo is sitting pretty after hurting a motor early in the week, and replacing it with the C motor that set a record on Monday in the Shine and Jesel Roadster. Some minor tuning has the team feeling confident and ready for the salt tomorrow morning at 7.
Wondering where team Nish has been this year? They’ve only been running in the 325 range…on 360 inches…NATURALLY ASPIRATED!!! They know they can’t possibly compete for the Hot Rod Trophy, but they are looking forward to taking home a record they lost a few years ago.
The racing has been feverish and dramatic at the 2010 Bonneville Speedweek, which shouldn’t be a surprise if you have seen any of our past Bonneville coverage, which means that respected names like Coehn, Holdener, and Sicilio are also looking at going the distance tomorrow morning. Racing continues all the way through Friday, so stay tuned.
