Just one of the features of living the hot rod life in Southern California, aside from the awesome weather, is the variety and hot rodding ideas reflected in the hundreds of local car shows and cruise nights every year.
The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum has kicked off the Prolong Super Lubricants-sponsored Twilight Cruise Nights for 2015. The event is held on the first Wednesday of the month each year from April through December and particularly, at the first Cruise of the year, brings out some new hot rods and garage-bound iron, guys and girls who want to show off their relics.
Iconic announcer Dave McClelland is back for Cruise Nights and, at the end of the evening, awards recognition that no hot rodder can resist. With judging from guest judges, the big prize for Cruise participants is being selected to be part of the Hot Rod Parade at the Auto Club NHRA World Finals in the fall at nearby Pomona Raceway in front of nearly 40,000 spectators.
The Cruise is free to both spectator and hot rodder, but while you are there wander into the Museum to see some of the history of the dry lakes and drag strips from the early years. The evolution of racing and hot rodding is now shown in new, large-scale dioramas and early racecars with lots of funny cars, super stockers, rails and racing memorabilia. It is a great museum.
The Prolong Twilight Cruise Night is held from 3 – 7 PM on the first Wednesday of the month and cruise night is worth leaving work early to enjoy some 250 awesome hot rods on display, no trailers please. Museum admission is $5 after 5 PM and free to Museum members.
The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum is located at the Fairplex in Pomona, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Bldg. 3A, Pomona, Calif. 91768. For more information call (909) 622-2133 or visit nhramuseum.org

… and just to play Devil’s advocate … here’s what sucks about cruising around in CA … having lived in LaLa land for longer than I care to remember ;
1)With all the traffic problems/congestion … nine times out of ten … cruising aint cruising … its .. parking .. on a somewhat mobile parking lot
2) The only thing worse than the exhaust fumes coming out of your own car on a sunny day .. is all the pollution thats surrounds you
3) The fact that everything from LA right down to CA its self is on the verge of bankruptcy … raping its citizens for every dime they can squeeze out of you .. just to [ barely ] stay afloat
4) All that ‘ great ‘ weather is in fact more bad news than good . The more ‘ good ‘ weather you’re having … the worse and more prolonged the current epic and historic drought will be
5) Not to mention the knowledge that every mile you put on your hot rod / custom / muscle car …. is contributing at a rate of ten times or more over a new cars pollution … meaning you’re pretty much just helping everything bad to get worse
6) And did I remember to include that you’ll be driving by miles upon miles of vacant factories .. empty corporate HQ’s and shuttered business that have all either gone under or gotten the hell out of CA while the getting is good … not to mention all the films TV shows , music etc that are NOT being done in CA anymore .. due the CA raping the entertainment industries back pockets as well
And thats just the tip of the SoCal iceberg . So remind me …. just WTF is so great about SoCal ? I lived there …. made more money than I care to speak of … and still don’t think much of it .
Honestly ? I’ll take my four seasons … Mountains over the ocean … and … a whole host of other advantages … which ahhh … more than a few very notable former SoCals do as well
As I’ve told many a SoCal holdout …. theres a hell of a lot more of y’all coming here .. than there is of us going …. there .. for damn good reasons … 😉
Cal is F. It is no wonder they are broke. Had some dealings with The smog referee recently. Two trips, two guys working. 1.5 hours each trip. SO 3 hours X 2 people What did that cost ???/ Final cost to me ( after spending $250 to replace a perfectly good cat on my van – ONLY because they didn’t like the mfg numbers stamped on it) $8.50 for the DMV cert. Stupid city wrote a $70
reg ticket on same Van, (fees were paid) After all the BS and hearings protesting ticket, cost $10
Lynn don’t you know how to get a Cali car smogged, you find the smog station that takes cash money or build up a car built before 1974.
