There is only one day left at the SCTA/BNI Speed Week 2009, and although the number of cars is dwindling, the racing is just as fierce. We saw the Team Nish AA/Fuel Streamliner throw a rod out of the engine today in an attempt to beat the Poteet and Main Speed Demon’s 387-MPH pass from Wednesday, and then a few hours later saw the Speed Demon make a 394-MPH pass to raise the bar even further.
With only one day left, teams were making passes like mad in an effort to qualify for record return runs on Friday morning. Some teams, like the Thunder Racing team lead by Mike Cook, actually changed engines in an effort to break another record. The dedication level of racers at Bonneville, even in the final days and hours, is second to none. There are only 7 cars in impound, including the Speed Demon, and we’ll be on the salt at daybreak to see all the action.
