Hot Rod Drag Week 2009’s Modified Naturally Aspirated class is another one that was hotly contested. Jay Brown, the only racer to participate in all five Drag Week events, has been in the lead all week, running 9.50s in his Cammer-powered, injected 1964 Galaxie.
Red Johnson in his black ’88 Mustang has been right behind Jay all week, posing a threat with close 9.50s and 9.60s. The four-day averages were 9.53 for Jay and 9.61 for Red.
On the last day of Drag Week in Muncie, Indiana, Jay ran his fastest ever pass of 9.49 for a five-day average of 9.52. Red just went 10.0. As of right now, Red would need to pull a 9.1 out of thin air to beat Jay. Assuming that won’t happen, we’re jumping the oficial results and calling Jay the winner.
Who would have bet on a SOHC motor winning a class at Drag Week? Only those who don’t know Jay.
