Bet you never thought you’d see that particular headline, huh? Courtesy of The Brougham Society, I bring to you an actual church-sponsored burnout contest from the Assembly of God church in Forest Lake, Michigan. The story goes that about twenty years ago, the pastor noticed some local kids were hanging around in the church’s parking lot when the local law enforcement started to harass them. That’s when he decided to create a car show and burnout contest on the church property, and it’s been going on ever since.
Simply put, this is brilliant! These cars look exactly like what you’d expect in a church parking lot and are doing a great job of sticking it to the local cops making a joyous noise and bringing people together in a celebration. The thought of Mrs. Jones, in her Sunday best and flowery hat, getting into her Grand Marquis and laying down a patch in the parking lot just makes us smile.
And if you want to understand what the pastor is all about…can I get an “Amen”?
