Freiburger’s Pic of the Week: Skyin’ the Poncho

Freiburger’s Pic of the Week: Skyin’ the Poncho

I’ve been photographing all sorts of automotive adventures for many
years, so I decided it would be cool to share some of my unseen
photos in a new regular feature on FreiburgersJunkyard.com called
Freiburgers Pic of the Week.

This archive shot caught my eye and
I decided it was as good as any to launch the new feature. It’s my ’73
Pontiac Ventura II (a Nova with a Pontiac grille) that I bought as a
parts car for another ’72 Ventura that you may have seen mentioned in
Hot Rod magazine a few years back. The ’73 was a super clean, one-owner
car, right up to the point where it got rearended by a freight train
(or at least the damage was that bad). The Pontiac 350 engine and trans
was good, though, and before I parted out the car Steve Dulcich and I
figured we should take it out for some sweet jumps. It endured
this eight or ten times before we got bored or feared the cops; I don’t
recall which.

The ’73 was parted out long ago and sent to the
‘yard. The ’72 ended up with a full TCI chassis and LS6 power. I left
that car with Rob Kinnan over at HRM, so you may see it in the magazine
sooner or later. And the Pontiac 350 engine and trans were just sold
last week for $150. And thus ends another chapter in the debacle that is my automotve life.
