Gearhead Destination of the Week: Texas Raceway

Gearhead Destination of the Week: Texas Raceway

When thinking of Gearhead Destinations, it’s easy to get caught up in the historical, big, or famous aspects of a place. But sometimes, it’s fun to brag about one of the local spots that’s still bitchin’. This week, it’s Texas Raceway in Kennedale, Texas. The track happens to be home to some of the country’s fastest Pro Mod and Texas True 10.5 cars and is officially the quickest 1/8th-mile drag strip in Texas. You better bring you’re a game if you want to bracket race because this track has won the NHRA Summit ET Series Championships multiple times. They don’t mess around in Texas.

Texas Raceway is home to names like Scotty and Edmond Richardson, Thomas Meyers, Jeromy and Jeff Hefler, Gaylen Smith, Gene Snow, and current NHRA Top Fuel Rookie and reigning IHRA Top Fuel Champion Spencer Massey. Plus, Reher-Morrison is just down the street and used to do all their testing there.

Texas Raceway has to be the busiest drag strip in the country. The only days they don’t race are Monday and Tuesday. That’s right, you can race every week from Wednesday through Sunday, with Friday nights being the big draw. Every Friday night features Texas Back Half Outlaws, Texas Outlaw Pro Mods, Outlaw Top Sportsman, King of the Hill and Texas True 10.5. Not to mention heads up grudge racing, brackets, and run what you brung street car action. That means you can be driving through Texas almost any day of the week and be able to hit some drag racing action in Kennedale.

Texas Raceway is right in town, hidden in plain site, surrounded by houses that can’t win a lawsuit, and still has metal guardrails. Sitting in the stands will take you to another world. A world where Pro Mods are everywhere, everything runs 9s or better, and on-track wagering is encouraged. This may only be an 1/8th-mile dragstrip in a little town southeast of Fort Worth Texas, but it’s big on performance, excitement, and fun.
