Get ready for the most spectacular rally on the 2016 calendar this weekend in Finland

We don’t usually post event previews here, but this is just a bit of a heads up to expect some great rally jumping content—also known as “yumps” in the local parlance—next week after the World Rally Championship (WRC) visits Finland this weekend. Finland is the Indianapolis 500 of rallying, if not in the sense of glamour then because, like Indiana has been to oval racing, Finland has for some decades been the hearth of international rallying. Finnish drivers seem to have a natural instinct for the gravel rallies that make up much of the calendar and while there’s only one full-season Finn in WRC this year—Volkswagen’s Jari-Matti Latvala—this is absolutely a rally that everyone wants to win.

The gravel roads in the northern woods run fast when dry, but mixed conditions and turn them into a treacherous, mud-slick bog for hundreds of miles. On top of that, nearly every stage includes several massive jumps that require guts and quick hands to stay out of the trees. Finland is not a rally for the feint of heart and you can be sure we’ll find some more spectacular airborne-hatchback video for you next week.
