HooptieCon: 24 Hours of Lemons Launches Festival for Crap Cars

HooptieCon: 24 Hours of Lemons Launches Festival for Crap Cars

While most people think of the 24 Hours of Lemons in terms of the low-buck road-racing series, Lemons is trying some new stuff lately. That has included the recently launched Lemons Rally (long-distance road rallies) and now adds HooptieCon, a car-show convention featuring all things hooptie at Sonoma Raceway on March 24.

You know those car shows where people prop the time-out dolls next to their finely polished ‘68 GTO? HooptieCon won’t have any of those shows; not that Lemons doesn’t appreciate a nice, clean muscle car, but this just ain’t that kinda show.

Instead, the inaugural HooptieCon will feature a whole heap of heaps: rusty and old-school hot rods from Billetproof, weird and awful vehicles from Concours d’Lemons (above), ‘80s and ‘90s note-quite-classics with period-correct attire from Radwood, cheap off-road adventure vehicles from Gambler 500, and more.

All of these shows happen in the paddock of thee 24 Hours of Lemons race with the usual mayhem of 150 beater cars at Sonoma Raceway and the accompanying silly punishments. After the checkered flag, the car show vehicles will take a parade lap, which will be followed by the Great Engine-Heat BBQ Cookoff (Food cooked entirely with engine heat…How could that go wrong?) and the Crapcannes Film Festival (with hooptie-caliber videos).

General admission tickets and more info can be found at HooptieCon.com. To enter any of the shows at HooptieCon, each page has its own ticket sales (Click for Billetproof, Concours d’Lemons, Radwood, and Gambler 500). All tickets include complete access to the shows, spectator areas for the race, and the 24 Hours of Lemons paddock and Penalty Box.
