Earlier this week we reported that the rumor mill was saying that Jeg Coughlin would be driving a Mopar in NHRA Pro Stock competition for 2012. Well, after making some more calls, and answering a few made to us, we now know that Jeg will in fact be driving a Mopar in 2012. Guys in the know have confirmed that Jeg will be making an announcement soon, and we expect that will be at the upcoming SEMA show. We are however going to contact Jeg himself and see what kind of dirt we can find out over the weekend. We expect he’ll be fairly tight lipped, but no matter what he tells us we’ll share it with you as soon as possible.
Although it does seem weird for Jeg to be driving a Mopar, don’t forget that in 2005 he drove a Bob Glidden tuned DSR entry. After struggling all year long, Jeg finally won the NHRA World Finals in Pomona that year and immediately announced he was taking a break and leaving Don Schumacher Racing. If you look back in history, Jeg seems to take a year or so off between driving gigs, and this one is no different.
We’ve got word on some other interesting announcements coming from Jegs and Mopar that we’ll share with you in the next few weeks, but rest assured the Jegs camp has plenty to talk about. With Summit Racing getting so much exposure over the past few years with Greg Anderson and Jason Line, look for Jegs to really hit them hard on the exposure front in 2012. We’re fans of Jeg and always have been, so we wish him and the Jegs team the best in their new adventure. If their past is any indication, the rest of the Pro Stock field better watch out.
Below is the rendering from Jeg’s 2005 Dodge Stratus. What will the 2012 version look like?
I hope it’s a new Challenger!
I was hoping it would be a Challenger also. I’m a fan of Jeg’s and glad he’s coming back. If he was going to go away from Chevy, I would have prefered a Ford, but if he wins I don’t care.
Glad to see him back, especially in a Mopar. It is a beautiful car and we wish him the best!
