Just about a year ago, the ground underneath the Skydome section of the National Corvette Museum gave way and opened up a 30 foot deep hole in the floor, swallowing up eight rare and valuable pieces of rolling fiberglass, all of which was caught on CCTV cameras. Over the course of the last year, the majority of the eight cars were removed from the hole (there’s probably a bit of Mallett Corvette still down there) and after some discussion that involved leaving the hole, turning it into an exhibit on it’s own or even making a static display of some of the more wrecked ‘Vettes, it was decided that the sinkhole should be filled up and as the hole is filled and the final details of the reconstruction project starts, the National Corvette Museum has decided to hold a contest for a Dana Forrester print of the 2009 “Blue Devil” ZR-1 Corvette’s removal from the hole. All you have to do is guess how much stone was used to fill in the crater…and yes, stone, not every malaise Corvette they could get their hands on. Sorry, Finnegan.
