“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes”. Such is the case of a man that Kansas Highway Patrol arrested on Sunday after he was clocked driving at 176 miles an hour on Interstate 35 near Williamsburg. The driver was caught after his engine blew up and he coasted to a stop. Details at press time are fairly thin, but there is an Import Face Off event being hosted at Kansas International Speedway in Wichita and according to KHP, vehicles from the event have been “impeding” the traffic on Interstate 35.
The vehicle that was used is, to put it best, a mystery. Officials can at least agree that it’s a Nissan of some sort, but the press statement is “the vehicle was a Nissan GTS that had been modified to a Nissan GTR for racing purposes.” This could be one of two vehicles and means one of two things:
1) The vehicle in question is a Nissan Skyline of some sort, which can be modified to scare all but the most serious hypercars out on the market, or
2) …they have a Nissan GT-R on their hands, which could do 193 MPH stock. In either case, the unidentified driver had better start praying, because between the misleading “modified for racing” quip that may or may not be true and the highly conservative nature of Kansas, it’s very unlikely that the judge is going to have any mercy whatsoever on this guy’s soul. So far, he’s charged with speeding, failure to signal, fleeing and alluding, impeding traffic, and reckless driving, and depending on the situation more charges could possibly be added.

Wow!
That scary photograph reminds me of the time I accidentally dropped a tab of acid before I was up in court on drugs charges in the 1970s
What a long strange trip it’s been…….
I thought “impeding traffic” would be driving 25 mph in the left lane…go figure! The guy was a “dush”…get ’em your honor! 🙂
If they had reported that the transmission exploded, we’d be certain it was an R35.
From what it sounds like it was likely an R32/R33/R34 chassis Nissan Skyline GT-S that was converted to the same-chassis Skyline GT-R’s RB26DETT engine and all-wheel drive system.
Hmmm… I’m in Wichita, and I know we have a couple gtr’s running around…
I’s have to go with a stuck throttle defense.
From the picture its a R32, if it was a GTS then the whole running gear would have had to be swapped over, if it was a GTS4 then only the RB26T and maybe the gearbox depending on the mods.
The RB25T in the GTS4 tho can run very hard as well.
It was a Skyline GT-R. Neighbor of mine. Not surprised the motor went out – his girlfriend drove it like she was trying to break it.
