This Supercharged Big-Block Suburban Is The Tow Vehicle You Deserve! Check Out This 1990s Throwback!

Sport trucks…which were mostly Chevy and GMC C/K trucks in monochromatic paint jobs wearing billet aluminum wheels slammed low to terra firma, looking sharp. You couldn’t get away from this trend in the 1990s, it seemed. You could buy just about anything you wanted to for a GMT-400 pickup or sport-ute to make it your own, back when BellTech lowering kits and Boyd Coddington wheels were the rage and you started out with a billet grille insert to spruce up the sight behind the steering wheel. There had to be millions of these things built over the years, and who knows where most of them are hiding out now. Well, we found one while digging through Mecum’s Los Angeles 2018 auction docket, and this one is more than just a lowering kit and pretty paint.

This 1994 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 was blessed from the factory with big-block grunt in the form of the Mark IV 454 EFI mill, and the owner saw fit to add some pressure to the big-block in the form of a Whipple supercharger. The interior is surprisingly un-modified…even the factory sound system remains in place, though a Kenwood CD changer system appears to still be fitted. Looking inside, you can believe that this truck hasn’t cracked 60,000 miles on the odometer yet. The only other mentioned mechanicals are a 3.73 Positraction-equipped rear axle on airbags, a hidden hitch and a lowering kit all around.

Does the sport truck look work for you? Here, minimal updates will leave you with a really nice truck…the wheels and tires should probably go, but there isn’t much else we’d change. Maybe an auxillary jack or a satellite radio system, but what’s really there to mess with afterwards? This is a road trip machine if there ever was one. Would you keep it period correct or would you mix it up after being done for twenty-odd years?

As an avid reader of Sport Truck magazine, as well as Dupont registry and Truckin’ , this brings back memories. I wouldn’t change a thing.

This thing needs nothing. If I changed the wheels, maybe something else that\’s still period correct but no bigger than a 17.

    Gas it up and go.

    Hmmmm, monochromatic goodness…..

I’m torn on the wheels. I do not hate them and as a budget minded enthusiast I’d probably just rock them and toss in a killer sound system and cruise the fudge out of it…

Reminds me of a buddy’s Sub…those bitchin’ billet wheels all got stress cracks when used to tow a race car, and while a blower made the dog 454 actually create some power, the mpg was half of what you’d get with a ten-year newer LS. So in style once, such a mullet now.

I actually looked at this Sub to buy before buying the white one we call Bimbo. It was AMAZING. We seriously considered it but the mileage and such was our concern. In truth, I should have bought it. It was almost perfect. Amazing condition and amazingly well cared for.
