Reports are coming out that the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park is expanding. With $35,000 from the special tourism project fund approved by the Warren County fiscal court, NCM Motorsports Park will begin work on an off-road obstacle course that will be situated at the far end of the autocross pad, near the recently-built garages. The obstacle course is designed for trucks, jeeps and sport-utility vehicles and will feature items such as log crawls, rock traps, mud bogs, tire crawls and more, set up in three individual routes for beginners, intermediate drivers and experts. Given the popularity of off-roading in the region, it makes sense that NCM would use some of their recent land acquisition to facilitate a space for off-roaders to come out and enjoy their vehicles.
While weather is a bit of an issue in Western Kentucky (the rain and snow have made for seriously sloppy conditions the moment you step off of a paved surface), NCM Motorsports Park hopes to have the off-road course prepared and ready by the end of March, 2020. The Jeep guys, four-wheel drive freaks, and maybe even the rock bouncers will thoroughly enjoy this, but I have to be a bit greedy when asking: how much of this can be converted into a rallycross track for King of the Heap? C’mon, guys…we’ve missed the rallycross portion of that event and we’d consider buying yet another car if it meant we’d get to thrash it off-road!
