My, my, what a nice problem to have. According to Allpar’s source, FCA was only expecting to move about 5,000 Hellcat-powered Chargers and Challengers a year when the programs went public last year. You know the numbers for the engine, and you know that both cars are just over $60,000 before destination charges and unscrupulous dealerships. You also may know that the next-cheapest car with that kind of power is the Lamborghini Aventador, and if you have to ask how much that Italian beauty is, you can’t afford it.
According to Allpar’s source, Hellcat orders will not be accepted until around August timeframe to allow the factories to catch up with the demand. With a 5,000 unit per year build schedule, FCA wound up overwhelmed by the demand and until they catch up it doesn’t make sense to have orders pouring in. Or, they could just do the right thing and increase production. We won’t mind.
5,000 a year sounds a little generous for production numbers.
These things are a hot seller, but FCA will have to trickle them out in order to keep the Dodge brand’s annual EPA scores up. I think the rough-guess was two or three Darts sold to balance out a Hellcat’s fuel consumption.
That aint the way the Financials and Automotive Business NEWS are reporting it !
According to ALL of them [ including the likes of WSJ , Reuters , NYTimes etc ] .. the orders have been suspended … because they aint being placed to begin with . e.g. Once the early adapters got theirs … demand fell into the abyss .. …just like every time Cadillac releases a new car . An initial rush of orders .. folks come to their senses .. orders stop being placed
Gotta just loves them Spin Doctors at FCA … 😉
Hmm…did some searching, and I’m a little confused. Could you please provide some actual links for all sources mentioned, for what you’re talking about?
Or is this the one that matters? http://jalopnik.com/how-to-spot-someone-whos-lying-on-an-internet-car-forum-1691704100
Yep, the buyers who are everywhere complaining about not having a build date yet, (after giving a hefty sum last year) are just fca bean counters that get a bonus with each scathing review condemning the very company that pays there bills. Smartest post yet poo slinger.
I would hope they take their time building them, based on Chryslers lack of quality builds. Love the product, gun shy on longevity
I have owned a few later model Chrysler products and have racked up to 200,000 trouble free miles. These were not expected to be big sellers from the git go,The want factor was totally underrated, going to be hard to ramp up builds on these special engines and meet demand and stay on cost.
Not sure where the ColoradoKid gets his auto news, but everything I’ve read in actual automotive news sites says that FCA is sitting on 9000 orders for a vehicle they hoped to get about 5000 on.
And demand sure hasn’t let up where I live.
