Want To Do Away With The BBD Carb On Your Jeep? Holley’s Sniper EFI BBD System Has Your Answer!

Want To Do Away With The BBD Carb On Your Jeep? Holley’s Sniper EFI BBD System Has Your Answer!

The Carter BBD two-barrel carburetor saw a lot of use over it’s lifetime, but one of it’s more well-known applications was on just about every Jeep CJ with the AMC 258 straight-six made between 1971 and 1986. It’s a robust, useful carburetor that occasionally has some faults…especially if you are the kind of Jeep owner that likes to do things like rockcrawling, for instance. Idling can be particularly troublesome, especially on the computer controlled versions found in newer models. Vapor lock can be an issue. And then there’s the adjusting and checking that has to happen, like any other carburetor. Look…we get that some people will never abandon carburetors, but wouldn’t you like to at least have the Jeep be dead-nuts reliable? You can ignore the rust hole in the cab corner, you can ignore the dent on the fender, but not having it start or run right is not acceptable.

Holley/MSD has the answer for you in the form of their new Sniper EFI BBD for Jeep CJs made between 1971 and 1986 that have the 258 six as a powerplant. It consists of a bolt-on BBD-style carb replacement kit that will support up to 350 horsepower. The ECU is mounted on the throttle body, so there isn’t yet another box to mount, and you only need to wire four inputs: positive, negative, key-on power and an RPM signal. That’s it…you can do that. Answer a few calibration questions via a wizard program and you will be on your way to letting the Sniper EFI tune itself to what you need. An internal fuel pressure regulator is preset to 58.5 PSI and a clamp-on oxygen sensor for a 2.25″ exhaust round out the package.

Tired of cranking the hell out of the engine to get your Jeep fired off when it’s cold out? Hate the BBD hesitation? It doesn’t get much simpler than the Sniper EFI kit. Make sure that if nothing else, your Jeep will start and run flawlessly.

    This is great…
I wonder if the base system could be used for other straight 6 applications like Mopar 225 slant 6?? 2 bels were used on some of them.

I had instantly thought of the Lean Burn-equipped 318 2v cars. The BBDs I dealt with loved to choke themselves up, even after the Lean Burn-ectomy. EFI would’ve been a godsend.
