On Tonight’s Back Road Gold, Corky Finds A Sea Of Cars, Including A ’59 T-Bird And Fire Truck!

It’s episode three of Backroad Gold, with Corky Coker, and this week his adventures take him to a field of cars that is so big you can’t see them all at once. The show airs at 6:30pm and 9:30 pm wherever you are, on the Travel Channel. Thanks to the pond in the middle, this place looks like an ocean of cars. And while there is plenty of late model junk in the pile, Corky finds to gold in the form of an ultra bitchin antique Fire Truck that Lohnes is going to lose his mind over, and a 1959 Ford T-Bird that Corky just has to have. Will it be restored? Customized? Or left in it’s natural “patina”? You’ll have to tune in to find out. Hell, we don’t like T-Birds, but somehow we dig this one.

If you haven’t seen Back Road Gold yet, you’re missing out. This is the barn find show that we’d all love to live. Corky has great one liners, a knack for great negotiations, and a mustache that has it’s own zip code. He’s fond of giving BangShift’s Chad Reynolds a hard time about the hair on his face being on the wrong side of his upper lip. Corky is a character for sure.

Here are a couple of sneak peek photos we were able to get from our production “spy” that show a little behind the scenes action. Can any of you identify the make of the Fire Truck?

Tune in tonight at 9:30 pm Eastern. If you have DISH, it’s on at 6:30 and 9:30 Pacific as well. Check your Travel channel listings to find it. You’ll dig it.

Im going to guess Peter Pirsch and Sons. My dad had a late 30’s Pirsch ladder truck for a while and those fenders look the same. His had an inline 6 with paired aluminum jugs that displaced over 500 cubes.

Nope, that’s a Seagraves built in Columbus, Ohio. Somewhere between 39 and probably 47 or 48. Seagraves made their own engines, if the original is still in it, which could be a straight 8 or V12. We’ve got a couple in our garage.

I think with that style hood it would be a post war. Our 41’s hood sides lift entirely, not the two piece like this one is.

Ramble on. Its cool to learn from guys that actually know what they are talking about. I’ve learned a ton from reading the comments of old hands and guys that are into stuff thats different from what I’m into here on BangShift

Again … does anyone really care or give a damn about yet another [ not so ] ‘ Reality ‘ TV car show ‘? Thought not 😉

Now the truck in the photo ? Thats an entirely different story indeed

Threedoor: I 100% agree. I’m all about drag racing, but the way this site combines every aspect of the automotive “genre” keeps me coming back every morning when I should be working harder than I am.

PS, I’m by no means an old hand (haha). I’m 28 and just grew up with and around classic fire trucks.
