It takes a tremendous amount of talent to make a car look plane-Jane, absolutely menacing, period correct, and show-quality in one package, and usually an attempt results in a car that might do one or two very well, but lacks out on the other segments. In the case of this 1964 Rambler 770, we are struggling to see a failure anywhere…this baby is gorgeous! Even if you turn your nose up at any straight-axle car, you have to admit that some serious time and energy went into the build that this car encompasses.
If any part of the build anywhere is going to disappoint anybody, the engine will be the reason. Sorry, die-hard AMC guys, but this Rambler is packing a Chrysler 440ci big-block between the fenders, and it’s hooked to a 23-spline A-833 four-speed. Out back, a Chrysler 8.75″ A-body rear axle with 3.91 gears and relocated leaf springs puts the power down. Up front a Speedway axle with handmade ladder bars takes care of business.
Inside, a pair of recovered 1969 Plymouth Barracuda seats and the custom cupholders are the only heavy deviations away from a well-kept stock interior. With twin fuel tanks (the front tank plus a 15-gallon rear tank) you could even consider the car semi-practical, for a gasser build. To hell with the fuel bill, Drag Week is calling!

the person who built this REALLY wanted to go fast and used a MOPAR engine instead of a chebby. this would be the whole reason to own this car.
It is a very cool car, except ….could they have gotten a front axle that was, like about 10 inches wider, so the wheels wouldn’t be under the frame rails??
This thing is pretty much dead nuts perfect, …..except as stated above by Blue’67CamaroRS, it needs a littler wider front axle IMO.
Needs a roll bar too.
