While it’s not the way we ever intended to receive it, if there is any spin to this whole COVID-19 mess, it’s that suddenly, you might have found yourself with a bit of spare time on your hands. And we’re steadfast in how we think you should spend that spare time: by getting out to the garage and getting some work done. In the case of reader BFXJason, the 1940 Ford sedan that he is building for his wife is the focal point in the shop and he’s been quite busy getting the car ready for it’s next major goal, paint. While we can’t wait to see the car in what is currently expected to be a satin black-like finish, a bit of metalwork has to happen in order to have the eighty-year-old Blue Oval ready to roll into the booth.
Body mounts, floor sheetmetal, the trans tunnel and more all have to be fabricated and welded into place. The seats have to be mocked up and fitment has to be correct. The shifter has to fit right. The battery tray has to be ready. These aren’t the most glamorous details to most, but in the long run they are details that need to be stressed over. And in his case, since the Ford is meant for his wife, those details had better be perfect. Nothing says “unhappy” quite like having to re-do something because the fit just isn’t there. Better to dwell over it now so it’s perfect when the paint is dry and the cruising is about to begin!
