Cool Christmas Car Art And More: Holley and Chris Froggett’s Take On Car Guy Christmas

Cool Christmas Car Art And More: Holley and Chris Froggett’s Take On Car Guy Christmas

One thing we dig about this time of year is all the funny car guy centric Christmas cartoons that you see depicting car guys decorating a starting line christmas tree rather than a regular green one, or Santa in a top fuel car, or whatever. Well, Holley decided to get in the spirit as well and brings us some cool artwork from Chris Froggett in the latest Holley Gearhead News email newsletter. They also have a bunch of other cool announcements like HardCore Gray Coating being offered on Ultra Street Avenger and Ultra Double Pumper carburetors, which means you can have that Bill E. Badass look on your street car as well as your racecar. There are other cool stories about Holley EFI, 2-barrels for the circle track dudes, and a video about the 2012 Holley Hot Rod Reunion.

Holley People News Fun on a Budget

Ron Beaty has been a Holley carburetor specialist and CNC setup operator for over eight years. He spotted this ’84 Firebird for a mere $500 and saw nothing but the possibilities. He drove the clunker home and immediately pulled the engine out to make way for something that packed a little more punch. He sold the GM original for $500, making the car itself free!

He bought a motor that had been built by a friend who had recently passed. The memory of his friend would live on in this Bird. The motor is a 406-cubic inch small block. It’s got all forged-goodies inside with a .630-lift Lunati camshaft and roller lifters, Dart 2 ported and polished iron heads, Hooker Competition headers, Weiand aluminum water pump, 1,000cfm HP carb, and Holley HP125 fuel pump. Ron will be adding a healthy dose of nitrous using one of NOS’ kits.

Last summer he put that motor in just to get the car moving, but it’s not ready for real action yet. The stock unibody wasn’t built to handle the kind of power planned. He has upgraded the suspension with Spohn front and rear sway bars, rear control arms, and new springs. Next is to replace the stock 700R4 since it won’t stand a chance. With an expected time slip in the deep 11’s, it will need a roll cage as well.

He is currently addressing the body work, trying to get it to one-color status before next year’s car show season. His inspiration for building the car was Holley’s Hot Rod Reunion and other rodding shows in his hometown, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

When he buttons it up with exhaust and a fuel cell he’s going to, in his words, “Punch it to the floor and see what breaks!”
