Sheet Metal Tech: How To Make Crowned Panels Without Fancy Tools!

One of the things I love about Fitzee and Karl Fisher and guys like them is their ability to show fabrication techniques that result in very nice results but without necessarily using ultra high end or fancy tools. Sure, there are times when that is part of the lesson, but not always. In fact, this video here is from Fitzee and he’s going over the kind of sheet metal patch or fabrication that often intimidates people so much that they think a vehicle is unfixable and lose interest.

I like this one because the panel he’s working on is crowned, meaning it is curved in more than one direction at a time, and yet he isn’t going to use an English Wheel or Planishing Hammer to make it. By breaking down the shapes into manageable parts, you can make some pretty complicated parts without the complicated techniques.

Watch as Fitzee walks us through using simple tools, that you already have around your own garage, to make some pretty impressive pieces.

Video Description:

No planishing hammer? No English wheel? No problem. This video shows you a simple way to make crown panels with simple tools that you have lying around your shop.
