And for the second car we knew was coming out of LeMans, the Alpine Celebration. Renault has been quick to remind everybody that this is merely a concept car, but in all honesty…we call BS. This two-seater looks to be aimed squarely at the small 2-seat group, with targets such as the Lotus Elise/Evora, Alfa Romeo 4C, and maybe even the Porsche Cayman in the target reticle. Engines and transmissions are at best questionable, with the most likely answer coming from within Renault’s parts bins, maybe from the Megane. We do know it’s mid-mounted, rear-drive and functional, having taken a lap of Circuit de la Sarthe, and that we will see the production version within about a month’s time from now. The styling is a nice coupe with a couple neat homage touches, like the “fog lights” on the nose, and if the size is right, this could make for an interesting new car. We may not be foaming at the mouth for it yet, but if this goes racing (Alpine WRC?) we’d be paying attention in a heartbeat.
OK … so now Renault /Alpine is doubling back on itself now claiming this is only a concept ? Hmmmn …so maybe Ghosen’s coming to his senses after all ?
But errr … McTaggert … READ … this car is being aimed at the Porsche 911 .. not the bleeding like stuck pigs money loser Evora and 4C . Seriously … who in the ___ would try and enter a category where losses are guaranteed ?
Then again … who the ___ in his/her right mind would try going up against the invincible 911 ?
So like I said … maybe Ghosen’s realizing the errors of his ways .. especially in light of the disaster financially and otherwise the stillborn CaterPine project turned out to be
Now … if only Ford would come to their senses as well …. before it really is too freaking late !
