King of the Hammers was insane as always, and the boys at Currie certainly know how to be a part of the action. Qualifying for the race is always exciting and it is rare that we don’t see some insane carnage as a truck misjudges an obstacle and ends up rolling down a hill or cartwheeling through the air. Casey Currie has been through some sketchy situations in his driving career, so he’s got his fair share of stories. With that said, maybe the experience actually makes him a little too brave sometimes as he got everyone’s attention during qualifying for the Race of Kings.
If you aren’t familiar with Back Door, it is a gnarly rock run that is in a very steep and narrow “valley” that is sometimes run up and sometimes down. Up features big rock faces and tough lines that often require the winch. Down means those same spots can result in your rig finding its way upside down as it stands on the nose going over some of these spots. Oh, and did I forget to mention these giant rocks are usually covered in at least some sand and small gravel that makes traction a challenge?
Casey decided to try and take all those things out of the equation since qualifying had them driving down Back Door. Instead, he chose to wood the thing wherever possible in an effort to fly off these obstacles. Let’s see how well that worked out for him in the Trophy Jeep.
